The Home Depot Foundation launched Operation Surprise, a contest inviting individuals to nominate military veterans across the country in need of home repairs. The contest is part of the foundation's Celebration of Service campaign, a seven-week period when the Home Depot's associate volunteer force pledges 100,000 hours of service to veterans.
"Giving back to veterans is extremely important to The Home Depot, so we’re truly excited to invite the community to be a part of Operation Surprise," Shannon Gerber, executive director at The Home Depot Foundation, said in a public statement.
During Home Depot's Celebration of Service, its associate volunteer force will complete more than 600 projects across the country to improve veteran's homes. Since 2011, The Home Depot Foundation has invested more than $315 million in veteran housing initiatives and has improved more than 45,000 homes and facilities for veterans across the country. In 2018, the Foundation pledged an additional $250 million to veteran causes, taking Home Depot's commitment to veterans to half a billion dollars by 2025.
