Home Meridian has recalled 640 chests due to tip-over and entrenchment hazards. The recall involves the manufacturer's Mid-Century 3-Drawer Accent Chests in brown and white finishes, according to an announcement from the Consumer Protection Safety Commission (CPSC).
The CPSC says the chests are unstable if they are not anchored to the wall, posing "serious" tip-over and entrapment hazards that can result in death or injuries to children. Additionally, the chests do not comply with the performance requirements of the U.S. voluntary industry standard.
The recalled chests were sold at Nebraska Furniture Mart stores in Nebraska, Kansas, and Texas, and online by Wayfair, Amazon, and Bed Bath and Beyond between March 2017 and June 2019. The model number of the recalled chests are located on a label on the back of the product. The chests measure 32-inches high, 32-inches wide, 16-inches deep and weigh about 75 pounds.
According to the CPSC, consumers should immediately stop using the chests if they are not anchored to walls and recommends placing the chests in areas that are not accessible by children. The manufacturer will provide a free tip-over restraint kit and a one-time free in-home installation of the restraint kit.
