OSHA has cited four Florida-based contractors, Southern Living Contractors, Crown Roofing, Paramount Drywall, and Sunny Grove Landscaping and Nursery, for exposing employees to safety hazards at a worksite in Naples, Fla. According to a news release from the agency, the four companies received 12 citations, totaling $220,114 in proposed penalties.
OSHA inspected Southern Living Contractors after one of its employees was seriously injured from a fall on a worksite. The agency cited the company for failing to provide fall protection with employees engaged in roofing activities.
While inspecting the worksite, agency inspectors witnessed several other safety hazards from the three other contractors. OSHA cited Crown Roofing for failing to provide fall protection, for the improper use of a ladder, and for exposing employees to struck-by hazards from falling construction debris.
The agency cited Paramount Drywall, doing business as Paramount Stucco, for exposing employees to fall hazards, for failing to provide fall protection, and for permitting employees to climb scaffold framing instead of using ladders to access a work platform.
Sunny Grove Landscaping and Nursery was cited for exposing employees to struck-by hazards from falling debris at the Naples, Fla., worksite.
Each company has 15 business days from the receipt of the citations and proposed penalties to comply, contest the findings, or request an informal conference with their OSHA area director.
