OSHA cited Charleston, W.V.-based Roofing Solutions for exposing employees to falls and other safety and health hazards at two locations across West Virginia. The contracting company faces $202,988 in proposed penalties for the alleged violations, according to a news release from the agency.
The agency initiated an inspection after it received complaints alleging employees were working on roofs without wearing proper fall protection equipment. Roofing Solutions was cited for failing to provide employees with proper fall protection, and for improper training on fall hazards. The company also failed to have a required safety and health program and failed to ensure employees working in roofing activities used proper ladders and hardhats.
"The employer's failure to take appropriate steps to protect employees from falls and other hazards exposed workers to serious, potentially fatal injuries," said OSHA West Virginia area director Prentice Cline. "Employers are required by law to use personal fall arrest systems when workers perform roofing work."
Roofing Solutions has 15 business days from the receipt of the citations and proposed penalties to comply, request an informal conference with their OSHA area director, or contest the findings.
