OSHA has cited Alabama roofing contractor Elmer Julio Perez, doing business as Julio Perez, for failing to protect employees from fall hazards after a worker fatally fell from a residential roof in Mobile, Ala. The contractor faces a total of $138,118 in penalties for the alleged violations.
The administration cited Perez for failing to ensure that employees used fall protection, for failing to report a hospitalization within 24 hours, and for failing to report a fatality within 8 hours, as required by law.
“Allowing employees to work at heights without using proper fall protection methods increases the risk of serious or fatal injuries,” OSHA Mobile, Ala., area director Jose Gonzalez said in a news release. “Employers have an obligation to ensure the working conditions are free of hazards.”
The contractor has 15 business days from the receipt of the citations and proposed penalties to comply, request an informal conference with their OSHA area director, or contest the findings.
