OSHA has cited West Palm, Fla.-based CJM Roofing for exposing employees to fall and other hazards at three residential worksites in Jensen Beach, Fla., and Port St. Lucie, Fla. The company faces a total of $199,771 in proposed penalties from the alleged violations.
The administration initiated two separate inspections as part of the Regional Emphasis Program for Falls in Construction after inspectors observed employees working without fall protection on residential jobsites. OSHA cited CJM Roofing for failing to provide a fall protection system, for failing to ensure that portable ladders extended above the upper landing, and for failing to conduct regular inspections of the jobsite to identify safety hazards.
CJM Roofing has been cited by OSHA eight times in the past five years, resulting in repeat violations of the fall protection standard. Most recently, the roofing company was fined over $290,000 in January for failing to use a fall protection system among other violations.
"Companies that fail to comply with fall prevention requirements are placing workers at risk for serious injuries," OSHA Fort Lauderdale, Fla., area director Condell Eastmond said in a news release. "This employer must take immediate action by conducting required hazard assessments and correcting dangerous working conditions."
CJM Roofing has 15 business days from the receipt of the citations and proposed penalties to comply, request an informal conference with its OSHA area director, or to contest the findings.
