OSHA has cited Georgia countertop manufacturer Atlanta Kitchen for exposing employees to amputation, silica, and other safety and health hazards at its manufacturing facility in Decatur, Ga., according to a news release from the agency. The company faces $132,604 in penalties for the alleged violations.
OSHA inspectors cited the company for exposing employees to silica levels over the permissible exposure limit and electric shock hazards, for failing to develop and implement written procedures for a hazardous energy control program, and for failing to conduct monitoring to determining employee exposure to silica. The manufacturing company was also cited for failing to use machine guarding on equipment, for blocking emergency exit routes, and for exceeding the noise action level.
The company, owned by Construction Resources and Builder Specialties, has 15 business days from receipt of the OSHA citations to comply, to request an informal conference, or to contest the findings.
