Semco Windows and Doors, a window manufacturer in north-central Wisconsin, closed its doors at the end of 2019, leaving 141 employees out of work. The company, founded in 1841, cited the company's inability to obtain further financing, the lack of orders, insufficient cash, and the inability to sell the company as reasons for the closing.

The company's production lines were shut down since shortly before Christmas, before a letter from the company president circulated among employees prior to New Year's Day, according to the Wisconsin public radio station. According to the company, closure impacted 21 clerical workers, eight supervisors, and 104 laborers.

"Semling Menke Company Inc. truly regrets that these actions are necessary," company president Patrick Semling wrote in a letter to employees. "Our foremost concern is to help our workers find other employment."

The family-owned company produced windows and patio doors and described a strong attention to detail at every stage of production, according to the company website.
