Current News and Happenings:
When Japanese architect Kengo Kuma, winner of the 2016 “Global Award for Sustainable Architecture” hosted by Locus Foundation of France, set out to design a breath-taking green space at Harajuku no Mori, his original vision was that of a majestic tree. Since the cost and practicality of a structure using a real tree were prohibitive, he surmised a solution to create the green space to closely mimic the natural colors and effects of real wood. He specified Einwood building material to design a natural-like essence where the eatery’s patrons now dine in one of the city’s most trendy environments.

But, Kuma’s architecture design in the form of nature is seen in more than one location. Throughout Tokyo, Paris and other parts of the globe, his works of building-art fulfill real-world purposes for site owners, while yielding stunning odes to what creative architecture can achieve. From green walls with cascading foliage to green roofs and building facades installed with plants, his designs set new standards and embrace green adaptions in novel ways that capture the attention of admirers both near and far.

One of 20 innovative products as seen at the annual AIA 2015 conference, and has since drawn continued attention from architects and design professionals, the Einwood building material Kuma uses in his select design work, has been ranked as a “Top Product Pick for Specifiers” by an independent committee of writers and publicists who cover architectural and building envelope product news year-round.

Exhibitors of the AIA expo were invited to participate in the top products consideration and selection process. Leading up to the event, product manufacturers with displays planned for the expo were invited via email to submit completed product forms with photos to be considered by the panel, which was led by Eberly & Collard Public Relations. The firm specializes in public and media relations in the architecture, construction and design industries, which involves the firm’s staff contributing and writing design case-studies and product profiles for numerous trade and mainstream media outlets each year.

The autonomous panelists who reviewed more than 350 products and selected the top 20 product picks conducted the research in neutral jury format, whereas existing clients of the firm were exempt. Those products included in the top 20, which have been revealed individually during the previous 12-plus months, were chosen based upon three factors, including advanced technology, innovative design and aesthetic visual appearance.

Einwood Corporations’ Einwood building material was particularly chosen for its durability. Einwood is a convenient and eco-friendly wood plastic composite building material specified throughout the world for stunning architectural effects.

The product has the physical and mechanical properties of rare tropical hardwoods, yet is resistant to weather, insects, fungi, and decay. “Einwood is a beautiful, durable, easy to maintain and eco-friendly wood plastic composite building material. Though we like to consider it a design material, it is versatile,” says Scott Smith, President of Einwood Corporation.

Unlike any other wood / plastic composite on the market, this building material actually has the warmth of natural wood. With appearance and performance advantages, Einwood is the ideal “practical beauty” solution for innumerable applications indoors and out, including:

Exterior

• Decks
• Cladding
• Sunscreens/Awnings
• Pergolas
• Trellises
• Accents
• Louvers
• Privacy Walls
• Green Walls
• Furniture

Interior

• Overhead Partial Visual Barriers
• Curved Design Elements
• Partitions
• Wall coverings

Einwood is made from scrap wood and post-consumer recycled polypropylene, and can also be recycled. As a result, it has a smaller carbon footprint than natural hardwoods and composites made from virgin plastics.

Installing Einwood is quick and easy for both residential and commercial projects. For decking applications, a hidden fastener was developed. Siding goes up easily with Einwood’s H clip. The material does not require any special tools or techniques.

Fusion of the wood and polypropylene before extrusion ensures that each board retains its mechanical properties for well beyond a 20-year warranty period. It has the softness, warmth and appearance of natural hardwood, including the smell and subtle color variations of real wood. Einwood will not weather, split, splinter, warp or rot, and has a unique slip resistance.

One of Einwood’s latest developments is co-extrusion with aluminum. This generation allows for longer spans, fewer supports and faster installation of custom-building facades. To learn more information about Einwood, visit www.einwoodproducts.com.
