An early adopter of polypropylene-based composite decking technology, CorrectDeck materials from Correct Building Products are now part of the GAF Decking Systems business. The acquisition completed on Aug. 28, 2009, adds to GAF’s current decking brands, including CrossTimbers decking and RailWays railing collection, and helps GAF remain among North America’s largest building materials companies.

GAF president and CEO Bob Tafaro welcomed the addition, noting that CorrectDeck products will bolster the company’s position in the growing low-maintenance decking market segment.

Correct Building Products was founded in 1999 by two industry veterans with the goal of manufacturing durable and sustainable composite building products for outdoor living. CorrectDeck products, including CorrectDeck CX, CorrectPorch, and CorrectDock, are made from a patented wood fiber-polypropylene formulation. The company has also been recognized for its environmentally friendly manufacturing processes, including being a two-time winner of the Governor’s Waste Reduction Award.

GAF will continue to offer both the CrossTimbers and CorrectDeck products. Each product serves an individual market segment, and all customers will have access to both brands. “A lot of the details of how the acquisition will play out in the marketplace will be determined over the next several months,” says Ted Marcopolus, vice president of marketing services for GAF. “For the most part, the customers who buy one product or the other are separate and distinct. Right now, not many are buying both brands. This presents an opportunity for both sets of customers to expand their product use.”

GAF also notes that new product introductions are on the horizon. Going forward, Correct Building Products co-founder Martin Grohman is expected to take on a leadership position in the GAF Decking Systems business. --Lauren Hunter, associate editor, REMODELING.
