Hurd manufactures primed wood or aluminum-clad windows and patio doors in a variety of styles. All Hurd windows are constructed of ponderosa pine, treated with a water-repellent preservative, then either primed or wrapped in an extruded aluminum facing. Aluminum-clad windows can be electrostatically painted in four standard colors or custom colors.
Skowronski says the most important thing he looks for when choosing a product to use is a good sales staff and service policy. "Hurd Windows has both," he says. "The windows fit well, and delivery is on time. And Hurd's staff does a good job of getting repairs taken care of."

Good Connections
Timberline's Accounting software is an integrated suite of applications that automates the accounting process. Alex Dean's company has been using Timberline's Job Cost, General Ledger, Cash Management, Accounts Payable, and Report Agent modules for more than 10 years. Dean finds that because of the software's strict accounting procedures, "you can't cheat the numbers," ensuring accuracy. "All the different modules are connected. They talk to each other." Information on a project that is entered into one application is automatically transferred to all the others.
Dean's company finds Timberline's customizable reporting feature particularly valuable. Any employee working on a specific project can access that project's information, request a specific type of report, set the parameters for the report, and print it out.

High Fiber
B&E General Contractors has been using James Hardie fiber-cement siding products in its projects for four and a half years and has even used the siding and trim on its own office building.
