Simpson Strong-Tie has a new lateral load connector that allows attachment of a deck to the house from the outside, sparing builders the trouble of going inside to make bolted connections. The DTT1Z allows builders to meet 2015 International Residential Code requirements for four 750-lb. lateral connectors as an alternative to two 1,500-lb. connectors, according to Simpson. The new tie connects deck joists with top plates, studs, or headers in the house framing. The tie is attached to the deck with SD Connector screws, and then to the house with a Strong-Drive Timber-Hex HDG screw. Connectors are protected with a galvanized coating and are available singly or as part of a pack that also includes the two types of fasteners needed for installation. strongtie.com
