Designer Ramina Kashani transformed an outdated guest bathroom into this serene, spa-like retreat by stealing just a little space from an adjacent closet and putting her mind to work.
The bath mostly functions as a powder room, so the homeowners wanted to keep the shower but take the focus away from it. They also wanted the room to be handicapped accessible.
Kashani resolved both issues by creating an open shower with a wide glass door. She chose an inset flush drain along the shower floor for its low profile. She also replaced the original glass block above the tub with a small square window.
For the spa-like look, she specified travertine tiles to line both the walls and floor and used a river-like channel along one side of the floor that holds river rocks.
The judges praised the clever use of common materials. They especially liked the innovative river channel and said the accent lighting makes the rocks glow as if part of an exterior landscape.
