While perfect for apartment or loft living, the compact kitchen could be used anywhere from basements to outdoor pool areas to teen or master bedroom suites.
Custom-made by companies such as Suite Artistry, Yestertec, Valcucine, Arclinea, Poliform, and Circle Kitchen, the compact kitchen can include a refrigerator, coffee machine, microwave, sink, garbage drawer, and storage.
“Being able to close it up makes it even nicer,” says Dani Polidor, owner of Suite Artistry, in Pittsford, N.Y. Plus, “If you get tired of it, you could use it as a secretary. The pull-out shelf becomes a desk and the refrigerator area can be file drawers.”
Designed in any wood, it can be made ADA-compliant, with a recessed sink, for example. Doors can be standard, bifold, or pocket. Polidor builds from 24-inch-wide modules and makes a full kitchen that’s 60 inches wide, 30 inches deep, and 78 inches high. A basic kitchen with a Miele coffee machine, GE panel-ready refrigerator, and compact microwave starts at about $25,000.
