USP Structural Connectors has launched a new line of connectors and fasteners designed for corrosive environments.

The company’s Gold Coat products have two anti-corrosive layers: a standard zinc coating over the steel substrate followed by a second layer described by the company as a “non-reactive, organic polymer.” In combination, the two layers provide corrosion resistance that the company says rivals that of stainless steel, but for a lower cost.

Accelerated weather testing done at Michigan State University found that the Gold Coat coating lasted two or three times as long as standard galvanized coatings, according to USP.

The coating is applied to a variety of fasteners and connectors, including angle clips, joist hangers, post anchors, rafter ties, wood screws, and nails. A complete list is available at the company’s website.
