The
American Society of Business Publication Editors (ASBPE) announced the finalists for its 2013 Azbee awards this week. Hanley Wood publications are up for an impressive 36 regional and national awards, including 10 for editorial and design work for
Remodeling.
The Remodeling staff often collaborates on expansive feature articles, so it's no surprise that two of the regional awards come in the Group Effort category:
Social Skills: The hottest marketing tools out there are in social media. Think of it as word-of-mouth on steroids.
Lifelong Design: Universal design is just that: universal. So it's for all ages, not just grandma and grandpa.
Additionally, the "Social Skills" article is up for two national design Azbees, one for best feature article design and one for best computer-generated front cover. It's also a great example of the Remodeling design staff's national nomination for best use of infographics. Check out the July 2012 digital edition to see the designs and info in action.

In October 2012, our cover story The Life of Brian profiled Fred Case Entrepreneur of the Year award winner Brian Elias of 1-800-Hansons. Not only is the article nominated in the national Best Profile category in the 2013 Azbees, editor Mark A. Newman also won a 2013 Neal Award for best profile for this piece.
The Remodeling design staff took another step up with a regional nomination for Best Feature Article Design for Flights of Fancy, a before-and-after piece centered around an impressive staircase in a Washington, D.C., home. They're also nominated for the bold cover of the August 2012 issue highlighting the annual Remodeling 550 list. The August cover was also showcased by two popular magazine design blogs, Cover Junkie and Nas Capas.
