Fitting Dormers: Adding a Dormer in Keeping With the Style of the Existing Home

When adding a dormer for space and light in an attic, consider the proportions and style of the rest of the house. Look for clues in the existing trim and eaves profiles, and bear in mind that there are limitations to each type of dormer. Still, it is best to stay true to the origins of the main structure to achieve a satisfying improvement.
