The NAHB says 800 builders, remodelers, and other industry pros have earned the association’s Certified Green Professional (CGP) designation, less than five months after the program was launched at the International Builders’ Show in February. The count, which is expected to continue to climb, far surpasses the organization’s unofficial goal of reaching 500 designees by the end of this year, reports director of environmental communications Calli Schmidt.
Issued by the NAHB’s University of Housing, the CGP designation signifies the recipient has completed a 16-hour Green Building for Building Professionals class and eight hours of business management education, and has a minimum of two years of industry experience.
Of the 800 recipients, the greatest number, 107, are from Texas, the NAHB reported.
During its National Green Building Conference in May, the NAHB announced it will add a Master Certified Green Professional designation next year; the new level, designed for builders and remodelers, will focus on technical and building science issues.
Both certification programs are part of the NAHB’s National Green Building Program.
