A 35-year-old Australian man has no serious injuries after shooting himself in the head with a nail gun.

According to news reports, Brad Shorten was cooling down with beer and friends after a day of working on his house, when, as a joke, he put the nail gun up to his head. Thinking it empty, he pulled the trigger. It wasn't, and Shorten was left with a 1.25-inch nail sunk into his skull.

While your employees may not be the type to pull this kind of stunt, it's still important to educate them on how the tools they use work. Shorten had turned off the air compressor and removed the nail cartridge prior to the incident. However, there was enough pressure left in the gun to fire the nail, which the gun had apparently automatically loaded when it was last fired. A little extra training can go a long way to preventing accidents.
