The
Hanley Foundation and Hanley Wood have named Make It Right of New
Orleans the recipient of the first Hanley Award for Community Service in
Sustainability. The annual award, with its $25,000 grant, was created to
recognize community-based and non-profit organizations working to advance
sustainability and environmental awareness in the host cities of the annual
Greenbuild International Conference and Expo, which takes place this year in
New Orleans. Make It Right was selected for its work building
sustainable, affordable homes for people in need around the country, including
New Orleans’ Lower 9th Ward, the neighborhood hardest hit by
Hurricane Katrina.
