You’d think that beyond high school, in the adult world, inventive excuses such as “the dog ate my homework” would no longer fly. Think again.

Employees may not always get to work on time, but you have to give them credit for their creativity when it comes to telling you their reason for being late. Here are a few of the excuses your fellow remodelers have heard from employees.

According to Rob Carlisle, president of Carlisle Classic Homes, in Seattle, his response to the last two of these excuses was: “No problem. Don’t get out of bed tomorrow or the next day because you won’t be coming to work at CCH anymore. However, I do appreciate your honesty.” —Mark A. Newman, senior editor, REMODELING.
