A New York duo has been arrested and accused of using a double-cart scheme to steal $257,000 from Home Depot stores in New Jersey, New York, Maryland, Connecticut, and Pennsylvania. They allegedly loaded two carts with identical items, paid for one, and stashed the other in the store.

After taking cart number one to their vehicle they re-entered the store and brought cart number two plus one additional item to the checkout — claiming they had forgotten to buy that item and that they were there with the original cart. If the cashier questioned them they showed the receipt from cart number one to prove they had paid for the contents of the cart they had now.
