Flashing often gets too little attention
in the design process, particularly in residential
work. Blueprints end up vague
on the flashing details, and contractors
end up doing a make-shift job with roll
stock and roofing cement.
But that's asking for trouble. You can
do beautiful work on the big expanses of
siding or roofing, but water is going to get
in where things intersect. And the
designs we've been seeing lately aren't
short on intersecting planes.
The only way to make sure the structure
is weathertight, and will remain that
way, is to take the time to review tricky
flashing situations on a job-by-job basis
