- Q.Is it possible for
wood to be too wet for polyurethane
glue?
A.You can expect
polyurethane glue to cure properly in woods with a
moisture content of up to 25 percent. Moisture has
to be present for polyurethane glue to cure, so the
moisture content of the wood to be glued should be
at least 8 percent. While there is no upper limit
per se for the glue to cure, I’d avoid
gluing wood with a moisture content higher than 25
percent, regardless of the glue. Wood with such a
high moisture content will shrink appreciably, and
the chances of joint failure are high.
