Working new construction, you can usually plan your actions
to make the best use of the tools you have at hand. When
you're remodeling, however, the site conditions often demand a
specific tool. A reciprocating saw, for example, may be required
to make certain cuts — like slicing flush to a plate to sever the
nails holding a stud in place.
Old houses are full of surprises. The studs may not be on
standard centers, so your drill won't quite fit in between the
