A new demonstration house features design techniques and products that facilitate aging in place. The senior-friendly LifeWise house was built by the NAHB Research Center, a subsidiary of the NAHB. It's part of the Research Center's MADE (Marketable, Affordable, Durable, and Entry-Level) Homes project in the National Research Home Park in Bowie, Md.
Major support and collaboration on the house was provided by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development's PATH (Partnership for Advancing Technology in Housing) program, the National Housing Endowment, and the National Center for Seniors' Housing Research through the U.S. Administration on Aging. Numerous manufacturers and other private industry entities have made product donations, as well.
The NAHB Research Center, the U.S. Administration on Aging, and the Joint Center for Housing Studies at Harvard University also released findings from the National Older Adult Housing Survey (NOAHS). It examines the choices that older adult homeowners make with respect to community amenities, home features, and living arrangements. It may be used as a reference for remodelers, builders, and developers who are interested in providing more focused and targeted products and services to older adult consumers.
