Six years ago, Double D Contractors grew to 30 employees and was running 14 projects at a time. “It was total insanity. Our quality went down and job control was horrible,” president Douglas Dervin (pictured) recalls. He and partner and vice president Nicholas Guerriero scaled back to regain control. The company now runs about seven projects under $300,000. Their ideal jobs are $100,000 to $125,000 for doctors, lawyers, and businesspeople who understand they have to pay for quality.

Photo: Courtesy Double D Contractors For their new offices, Dervin and Guerriero purchased and remodeled a house located central to five high-end neighborhoods. The office has a conference room for closing sales and product selection. Dervin's son and daughter have joined the company. The company also has plans for a more controlled expansion. After doing market research and applying for a license, Guerriero is setting up a second office in California that will specialize in kitchen and bath remodeling.
