Bathroom Remodeling

Tudor Tones

When Doug Walter's clients asked him to add a master bath to their 1928 Tudor Revival house, the architect researched homes of the same period and thought a fitting remodel would be formal and restrained. The judges were drawn to his design, noting that the interior is a rational expression of the exterior.

Walter crafted the triangular shape above the cherry vanity as a half dormer matching the existing dormers. He also took advantage of the vast attic space to sculpt a symmetrical skylight shaft. For his palette of materials, he chose limestone tiles, marble slabs, polished-nickel fittings, and painted and stained cabinetry.
