The National Association of Home Builders' Certified Green Professional designation was introduced in February at the International Builders' Show in Orlando, Fla. “We know green is the future of building,” said NAHB president Brian Catalde in a press release. “With [this] designation, we're helping our qualified members demonstrate to their clients that the future is here.”
To apply for the CGP designation, remodelers and other building industry professionals must have at least two years of industry experience and have been involved in construction of at least one house during the past 24 months.
The designation is based on the NAHB's Green Building for Building Professionals course, a two-day training and education session that discusses strategies for incorporating green-building principles into homes without driving up construction costs. More than 700 builders nationwide have already completed the course since its introduction two years ago.
CGP candidates must also complete a University of Housing management course, agree to continuing education requirements, and adhere to a code of ethics.
