Board By Board, or Brick By Brick

An average 2,400-square-foot home uses 16,000 board feet of framing lumber, according to the Idaho Forest Products Commission. If you’d rather build with bricks—tiny ones—check out movato.com’s Lego My House calculator. Plug in your square footage and the site will calculate how many Legos you’ll need to build a home. (It’s about 11.6 million bricks for that same 2,400-square-foot home.)
