OSHA has cited Dayton, Ohio-based Roofs by Antonio for exposing employees to fall hazards while installing shingles on a sloped roof, according to an agency news release. Since the company is a repeat offender with previous OSHA citations, Roofs by Antonio faces $159,118 in proposed penalties for the violation of OSHA's fall protection standards.
Agency inspectors noted one willful and two serious safety violations for failing to provide and install a fall protection system and failing to have a "competent person" inspect the worksite daily. OSHA has cited Roofs by Antonio for fall protection violations five times since 2014, most recently fining the company $8,536 in June 2018. In total, the company has been fined more than $300,000 by OSHA.
"Disregard for required OSHA safety procedures places workers at risk for serious and fatal injuries," said OSHA Cincinnati, Ohio, area director Ken Montgomery. "Falls are preventable when safety systems are installed and properly used."
Roofs by Antonio has 15 business days from the receipt of the citations and proposed penalties to comply, request an informal conference with their OSHA area director, or contest the findings.
