By Nina Patel. Legacy Custom Builders in Scottsdale, Ariz., transformed an outdated bathroom into this rustic retreat. The focus of the room is a hand-made galvanized steel sink with copper tubing faucets. The homeowner took the lead on finding just the right sink and faucets. For the sink, she found a creative partner in Scottsdale-based Tin Works. Owner Leroy Dowdy worked with her to design the sink. She wanted it to look old, so he suggested an acid wash to give the steel a weathered look. The company crafted a smooth top edge out of copper tubing.

Dowdy says this sink is an example of a trend to use metal throughout the house. This type of custom metal work makes up one-third of Tin Works' business. The bulk of their work is installing air conditioning and helping customers with indoor air quality. Dowdy says he often works with Legacy and notes that their projects, like this one, tend to be out of the ordinary.
