A contest run by the Red Wing Shoe Co. will honor one of this country's most overlooked assets: craftsmen.
The search for America's Master Tradesmen began on Feb. 21, and nominations will remain open through June 30. According to a Red Wing press release, nominees will be judged on their expertise, skill, community involvement, and their dedication to passing along their knowledge to others. The company is staging the contest as part of its 100th anniversary celebration.
One hundred winners from a variety of trades — many directly related to the construction industry — will be announced in the fall. Each winner will receive a pair of limited edition work boots, and a $500 scholarship in their name will be awarded to a vocational or technical school of their choice.
