Houston remodeler Don Strong says the carpet protector he has used for eight years shows his clients that his company is dedicated to protecting their homes. The president of Brothers Strong says the durable plastic sheets last for weeks on the jobsite. "We put it down at the start of demolition, and it stays for the entire job," Strong says. "It is next to impossible to tear or puncture it."

\The polyethylene carpet protector is made by Protective Products and has a low-tack adhesive to hold it in place. It comes in 36- and 24-inch widths in 200-, 500-, and 1,000-foot rolls.

Strong recently found another use for the sheeting that adds a benefit for his employees, too. "We do a lot of window replacement, and most of the time it requires breaking the old window glass. We now put the carpet protector on the glass to be broken, then break the glass," Strong says. "We have a minimal amount of glass pieces to deal with, and it is a lot safer for the installer."
