I’ve been in the construction business since 1986, when I started a deck company. Some years later I started a second construction company and then combined the two into an LLC that now includes home services as well. But we still design and build a lot of decks, about 25 to 30 a year.
Years back, before HGTV, all decks were treated and square. Today, everything is multi-level with bump-outs. This deck, which took a couple of months to build, is no exception. It’s 1,800 square feet, with ipe decking and Deckorators railing. The skirting is clad in stone and vented to provide air circulation under the deck. We had originally used a foam-backed product for the post covers, but those turned out to be a woodpecker magnet, so we replaced them all with the polycast columns seen here.

Built a great deck?
We want to see it.
