Town Bans Upholstered Furniture on Decks

Fire concerns have prompted officials in Lawrence, Kan., to ban upholstered furniture on decks and patios. Fire officials said that of the 463 building fires in the city since 2007, 10 were on a deck or porch with upholstered furniture. That apparently was enough to trigger a 3-2 vote in favor of the ban.
