Vinyl siding continues to be the most widely sold siding option in the U.S. for good reasons: It needs no painting, the material is impervious to water (though the assembly is not; no siding is), is easily one of the most affordable siding options available, and it lends itself well to residing so it is a natural choice when you compare it to the cost of repainting.

Installation, however, can be its downfall. It’s not difficult to install but it behaves differently to environmental changes than other siding materials, and, as you'll learn in the Building Session, there are several practices that can really make or break the aesthetic appeal of a vinyl exterior.
