Forget the 5,000-square-foot beach house just out of sight in the photos. Can’t you just hear houseguests commenting — as they stop at this cool shed to grab a folding chair or boogie board on their way out to the beach — “Now who did you say built this place?”
Patty McDaniel of Boardwalk Builders in Rehoboth Beach, Del., put the little storage building at the intersection of the deck and the boardwalk that leads out to the ocean — “right where everyone dumps their stuff when they come back from the beach. Only now, they have a place to put it.”
The shed is partially sunk below the level of the deck. “Part of the challenge was to make it look small but still hold a lot,” says McDaniel. “We wanted to provide as much storage as possible without putting a humongous outbuilding right in the ocean view. We gained about 30 inches down there. It’s a little damp in the bottom, so that’s where they put the boogie boards.”
