After reading articles about super-insulated houses, like the May and June articles about the Passive House, I always arrive at the same conclusion: We do not have the right materials to build these houses efficiently. For example, sealing would be much easier if we had an affordable spray-on insulation material that performed like urethane spray foam but without the environmental effects. We also need to reduce the complexity of the framing while still providing ample room for insulation and reducing thermal bridging.
