Building contractors in some of Pennsylvania's rural counties are "up in arms" about a proposed new Department of Environmental Protection policy that would toughen the regulations on septic systems, reports the Altoona Mirror ("Septic tank rules might hurt small landowners," by Ryan Brown).
"The plan, drawn up by the Department of Environmental Protection after a court case forced it to rewrite its rules, would establish new guidelines for anyone installing a septic system in the state's so-called 'high-quality' and 'exceptional-value' watersheds," the Mirror reports. The comment period runs for another month.
