A new manufacturer in the engineered wood category could ruffle some feathers. Production of FeatherWood, a structural bio-based composite material, is set to begin this fall. The composite uses reclaimed poultry feathers and foaming low-VOC glues to create standard-size framing timbers, subflooring, and more. The company says the green products will offer a higher R-rating and better sound isolation, insect resistance, and flame-spread rating than wood.
