The judges for this year's REMODELING Design Awards were Jonas Carnemark, Carnemark systems + design, Bethesda, Md.; Paul Gidus, PSG Construction, Winter Park, Fla.; Bill Owens, Owens Construction, Powell, Ohio; Peter Pagenstecher, Brenneman & Pagenstecher, Kensington, Md.; Susan Pierce, AIA, Commonwealth Home Remodelers, Vienna, Va.; and Doug Walter, AIA, Doug Walter Architects, Denver, Colo.

The winners of this year's REMODELING Design Awards showcase the best in residential and light commercial remodeling. From historic renovations that nod to the past to contemporary projects that wink at the future, the projects highlight the work of talented design and construction teams. A carefully pieced together kitchen remodel earns the Best of the Year award. The addition is angled outward and upward to form a perfect geometric base for the sleek, sunny kitchen with a mountain view.

Our distinguished panel of judges met at REMODELING's Washington, D.C., offices and chose 16 winners out of a pool of more than 170. Besides the Best of the Year, they chose three grand, seven merit, and five honorable mention awards.
