By Christopher Walker. St. Louis and St. Louis County, Mo., are developing codes to govern renovation work specifically, and they're working together to make sure their two codes are "as similar as possible," the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reported.
Like in many jurisdictions, the building codes in St. Louis and St. Louis County were written with new construction in mind, making their requirements for rehab work a task to draw out. To encourage investment, the city and county are developing the new sets of codes to alleviate contractors of that task. Both are basing their code on the International Code Council's draft of the International Existing Building Code.
