Though the owners of this 1920s Craftsman house wanted a larger home to accommodate their six-member family, it was important to them that the new design have traditional features that fit the neighborhood. They also wanted details and products that matched the original house.
Architect George Myers added an expansive 4,800 square feet to the house while all the while keeping the warm, cozy feel in a design that the judges lauded as “attractive and consistent, inside and out.”
The addition includes a guest room, playroom, and bathroom in the basement, expands the first floor with a new family room and the second floor with a master suite, and finishes the attic with two bedrooms and a bathroom. Myers also designed a new front porch and rear screened porch to provide outdoor space.
The house now boasts good flow for casual or formal entertaining.
Contractor Anthony Paulos and his crew crafted traditional interior and exterior details including deep window sills; vintage oak flooring, transoms, and beams; and builtin cabinets. The judges noted the new symmetrical exterior does not have a bad side.
