Earlier this year, Minnesota GreenStar (MNGS) teamed up with the Alliance for Environmental Sustainability (AES) to expand the GreenStar certification to Michigan, Illinois, Wisconsin, Indiana and Ohio. Now, the organization has formed an alliance with the National Association of the Remodeling Industry (NARI), Des Plaines, Ill., to apply points for NARI’s Green Certified Professional designation when remodeling a project to earn a GreenStar label. Dan Taddei, NARI’s director of education, says GreenStar lists what a remodeler has to do to earn certification for a project, and NARI’s GCP educates remodelers about the technical information behind high-performance remodeling. He says the two programs are synergistic. Remodelers in those states that want a project to earn the GreenStar certification apply to the program. Verifiers review the remodeler’s GCP’s stamp or certificate, and apply the points during the approval process. —Nina Patel is a senior editor at REMODELING.
