It is the Remodelers Advantage Roundtables season, and I am facilitating a number of these meetings.
At one recent meeting, Randy Burke of Evergreen Home and Cottage, in Lindsay, Ontario, brought up how it is virtually impossible to succeed in business without a clear sense of what success looks like. Contributing to that clear sense would be things like a mission statement, a vision statement, and a business plan.
He likened a business being run with those to be more likely to be successful because of the principal of "look, steer."
Randy mentioned that "look, steer" is a way of riding a motorcycle. In order for the motorcycle to go in the direction you want it to, you have to actually look in that direction. To do that you have to have a sense of where you want to go.
Simple and it makes sense, a powerful combination. Where do you want your business to go? If you don’t know, how can you get there? —Paul Winans, a veteran remodeler, now works as a facilitator for Remodelers Advantage, and as a consultant to remodeling business owners.
