While its forecast that remodeling spending could set an all-time record this year got most of the headlines, how the Joint Center for Housing Studies of Harvard University (JCHS) looks back over time also merits attention. We did.
Hanley Wood's infographics team took historical data from the back of JCHS' report on emerging trends in the remodeling market, issued in January, to create three interactive graphs displaying the number of total projects, total spending, and average project cost for home improvement projects between 1995 and 2013. Much of the numbers are based on JCHS analysis of federal reports. The numbers supplement the report on five key remodeling trends that Kermit Baker, JCHS' senior research fellow, presented on May 6 during the Remodeling Leadership Conference.
