When the owners of an industrial three-story condo wanted to renovate their home in the nation’s capital, they approached local firm Four Brothers for the project. The remodel included updating the builder-grade kitchen and open living room, adding new HVAC, and gutting the bathrooms.
Throughout the space, red wood tones were swapped for a cooler palette of grays, blues, and whites. The kitchen cabinetry sports new, frameless construction, with deep graphite gray–stained fronts and stainless steel pulls, while the countertops showcase a custom-configured, thick quartz slab in a softer gray finish.
The dining area, with seating for five, was created by extending quartz counters perpendicular to the thick slab peninsula.
Generous natural light from floor-to-ceiling windows and doors illuminates the space during the day. Industrial stainless steel fixtures over the quartz and on the walls take over at night.
In the bathrooms, the footprints remained the same because of the existing plumbing, but the team was still able to include modern elements such as glass-enclosed showers, floating vanities, and recessed niches and cabinets.
The existing bamboo flooring, present on all three floors, was replaced with white porcelain tile on the first floor and darker, slate-like tile on the third. On the third-floor penthouse, which walks out to a private roof deck, the team updated the mini-bar and created a small office with storage. The cabinetry for the space was matched to the kitchen’s graphite-stained cabinetry.
