The London Daily Mail reports that a laid-off British carpenter — who printed 5,000 leaflets advertising his availability as a handyman, distributed them to potential customers, and placed advertisements in four local papers — has had his unemployment benefits terminated because he was “not actively looking for work.” “I told [the] staff at the job center I’d been spending six hours a day distributing the fliers and they wanted to know if I had done anything else,” said 38-year-old Adam Pay. “We would have been better off doing nothing and just putting on the form that we had checked the Internet and the papers every day.”
