Carrara marble dyed black to create dramatic textural elegance. Acid-etched concrete that never requires resealing. Lightweight limestone blends for seamless countertops. These are just some of the material effects that Joe Ginsberg uses in the virtually limitless range of custom furnishings, fixtures, and surfaces he creates for residential and commercial clients in the New York and Los Angeles studios of Joe Ginsberg Inc.
What sets Ginsberg apart is that all his formulas are proprietary and all employ natural substances as the base. Plus, while his mixes maintain the characteristic looks of natural materials, they are easier to work with. A limestone mix can be used, for example, to create a seamless countertop or a backsplash, or molded to add decorative detailing not easily achievable with the original stone. Because the mix is lighter in weight than original limestone slabs, it can be used to create custom-sized wall tiles as large as 20 by 20 inches.
“The materials I use are authentic in that they are created from scratch,” Ginsberg says. “Whether it's plasters, concretes, or acids, they are proprietary mixes that have taken me years to perfect. They are foolproof — they won't crack or wear, and they look natural.”
The company accepts projects of any size and for any concept. “We build and install the pieces,” Ginsberg says. A remodeler can either send plans or can suggest a general concept and ask Ginsberg to work out the details. Ginsberg uses control samples of the materials to show to the client for approval, so there are no surprises.
